THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT WHILE WE WERE IN AFRICA!

We are now back in the US and have seen first-hand the poverty that grips 2.7 BILLION people in the world (defined by those living on less than $2/day by the World Bank).  We spent 7 weeks in Kenya where 58% of the people live in poverty and earn under $2/day.  We stayed in a village called Tala that out of 27,000 people, 16,000 are children and 85% of the adult population is unemployed.  We thank God He saw fit to allow us to serve in this capacity for His children in Kenya.

There is so much to share with you that space does not allow it.  We are going to begin placing pictures on the website showing what took place while we were in Tala.  God was gracious, hearts were moved and hope was given.  Children who were very hesitant of even looking at the Muzungu (White Man) were laughing with us and crying with us when we departed.  Projects the orphanage only dreamed of became reality.  The Reverend (Bishop) of the African Inland Church (AIC) of Tala invited me to give the message on the last weekend we were there and I spoke of God’s love for His children and how we must respond to that love by accepting the sacrifice of Jesus, the ultimate outpouring of His love, to have eternal life.  We encouraged them to study scripture where they would see the type of life our Father calls us to live.  The Reverend ensured us they would start a Bible study program so we could see it when we returned in the fall.  We got a commitment from Pastor Mutie (AIC) that he would teach CRE (Christian Religious Education) at the Academy starting this term.  We made friends we will have for the rest of our lives.  We assisted impoverished families who were watching their children die from disease…who couldn’t afford to go to a doctor because they could not get anyone to buy their only possession worth anything-their goat.  Thank you Father for calling us to serve you in this capacity!

Where do we go from here?  We continue to do what God has called us to…bring His love and hope to His children in Tala, Kenya…Join us as the Holy Spirit leads!

We are currently in the process of making a power-point presentation and a DVD of the experience.  We will send you an e-mail when they are complete to see if you would like to get one.  Tammy has pictures and backgrounds on every child at the Academy and we will be asking if you would like to personally sponsor a child.  This would involve making a commitment of at least $20/child each month and corresponding with the child on a regular basis (English is one of their two primary languages so they can correspond directly).  We are not experts in this area, but will work through this with you as God leads.  We are planning for our fall trip to Tala and have the capacity of taking up to 8 people with us (this is limited by the facilities at the Academy – you would not want to stay anywhere else).  Please begin to pray about your involvement in this next trip.  We have many projects which need funding, the biggest being the completion of the new structure.  With this structure we will be enabled to service around 400 children and possibly create a secondary education facility where the children will be able to continue their education through the equivalent of high school graduation.  They would not have to worry about stopping their education after 8th grade (the highest "primary" grade currently taught at the Academy) because they could not find someone to sponsor them, and the orphans could continue to live at the Academy until they graduated from high school.

I have to stop…I could continue on for pages.  God has shown us what we are to do.  He has told us He would provide the people that would work with us in accomplishing what He wants done.  He has done that and what a fantastic start it has been.  THANK YOU.

 

You have made possible what is called for in Scripture: to provide for the Widows and Orphans…to clothe, give food, give drink and show love to Jesus by supporting the least of His children.  Do not see this as a one-time event…make it a life time commitment through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Once again, I can’t thank you enough for making this possible and for your continued support.  You are being used by our Father for His purpose…what more of a blessing can we ask for than to serve Him by serving His little ones in poverty!
